The Series directs special attention towards the added value of interdisciplinary and international cooperation in global health research. Every first Tuesday of the month, speakers share insights into their research projects while focusing on research processes, methods, as well as lessons learned. Following the speaker’s 30-minute presentation, the Series encourages an academic exchange between the speaker and the audience in a 30-minute Q&A session.
Dr. Daniela Fusco leads the Implementation Research Group at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine. She is a molecular biotechnologist with a PhD in virology and has worked at several international institutions, including the Universities of Naples, Bologna, and Ferrara, before transitioning into global health. Her career includes roles with Médecins Sans Frontières and INSERM, where she contributed to diagnostics and vaccine trials, including Ebola research. Her work focuses on strengthening the implementation of evidence-based interventions, particularly in the context of infectious diseases and health systems in low- and middle-income countries.
In the upcoming session, Dr. Fusco will present on “Implementation Research as a Catalyst for Change – Lessons Learnt from Schistosomiasis Control in Madagascar.” She will explore how implementation research can support the effective delivery of health interventions in real-world settings, drawing on practical experiences from schistosomiasis control programmes and highlighting key challenges and lessons for sustainable impact.
Please note that the Academy Series session on May 5, 2026 will exceptionally start at 15:00 CEST.
