GLOHRA Academy Series

Guest Speaker: Prof. Alice Lakati, Amref International University
Topic: Advancing Primary Health Care Research: Insights from Amref International University, Kenya
Registration: https://uni-bonn.zoom-x.de/meeting/register/L2AzL1G_QTCOwaw7wrE6GQ

The Series directs special attention towards the added value of interdisciplinary and international cooperation in global health research. Every first Tuesday of the month, speakers share insights into their research projects while focusing on research processes, methods, as well as lessons learned. Following the speaker’s 30-minute presentation, the Series encourages an academic exchange between the speaker and the audience in a 30-minute Q&A session.

The next five GLOHRA Academy Series sessions will be organized in cooperation with Amref Health Africa (Deutschland) on primary health care research.

We start the Amref cooperation with Prof. Alice Lakati, who is the pioneering Director of Research, Innovation, and Community Extension at Amref International University—an affiliate of Amref Health Africa—where she has led the design and implementation of multi-country research and evaluations across Africa.
Prof. Lakati is an Associate Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology and a seasoned epidemiologist with more than 20 years of distinguished experience in academia, research, and public health practice. She has taught at both private and public universities in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia and has contributed to various expert committees, including those convened by the World Health Organization. At Amref International University, Prof. Lakati has held several senior leadership roles, including Acting Vice-Chancellor and Founding Dean of the School of Public Health and the Graduate School. Her professional interests include education, public health nutrition, migration, community health, and the health impacts of climate change.
