The Series directs special attention towards the added value of interdisciplinary and international cooperation in global health research. Every first Tuesday of the month, speakers share insights into their research projects while focusing on research processes, methods, as well as lessons learned. Following the speaker’s 30-minute presentation, the Series encourages an academic exchange between the speaker and the audience in a 30-minute Q&A session.

Dr. Joseph Sitienei is a seasoned public health professional, educator, and leader with extensive experience in epidemiology, health systems strengthening, and disease control. He currently serves as the Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Graduate School at Amref International University, an affiliate of Amref Health Africa. Before joining academia, Dr. Sitienei held senior leadership roles at Kenya’s Ministry of Health, where he successfully led the national Tuberculosis (TB) program, guiding Kenya to achieve global TB targets. His exceptional leadership earned him the prestigious Karel Styblo Award for outstanding contributions to TB control. At the Ministry, he also served as the Head of Health Policy, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation, where he spearheaded the digitization of health facilities and advanced evidence-based policy formulation.
Dr. Sitienei is widely recognized for his strategic leadership in community health development, championing strong partnerships between communities and health systems to enhance access, equity, and sustainability of healthcare delivery.
