The Global Health Academy is a GLOHRA initiative that supports the next generation of global health researchers, specifically doctoral students and postdocs from all disciplines. The Academy aims to improve the quality, accessibility and number of global health research trainings.
As part of GLOHRA’s effort to contribute to building the future community of global health researchers in Germany, GLOHRA members can request funding to develop and conduct trainings for early career researchers (namely, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers) in global health. Trainings are categorized in three funding lines:
Basic Training Offer
- Main target group: Early-career researchers without prior contact to global health
- Content: The Basic Modules can be understood as kind of ‘crash courses’ on topics that are typically taught in a global health master’s. It is required that the topic proposed for a Basic Module has a strong research orientation and is highly relevant for conducting global health research
Targeted Training Offer
- Main target group: Early career global health researchers in the planning or initial implementing (not the writing) phase of their research project.
- Content: Targeted Training Offers are targeted towards specific aspects of a research project. This aspect can be content-related or of methodological nature. Moreover, the training is targeted towards the participants’ ongoing research projects and includes a critical reflection of the project
Advanced Training Offers
- Main target group: Final year doctoral students and postdocs envisaging a career as researcher in or outside academia
- Content: Advanced Training Offers serve to deepen knowledge in an area that not only applies to certain subject areas during the doctorate, but is relevant to most early-career researchers who want to continue their career path towards a lecturer/professor or senior research fellow position
The Global Health Academy can support activity costs such as room, equipment and catering costs, travel support for national and international speakers and for participants from low and middle-income countries as well as costs for the development of related IT solutions.
