In a session of the Committee on Health (Ausschuss für Gesundheit) of the German Parliament (Bundestag) on 17 December 2025, Nora Anton, Managing Director of the German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA), highlighted the strategic importance of Germany's sustained investment in global health research. Speaking alongside representatives from academia, civil society, and government, she highlighted the importance of global health research for population health and sustainable development, scientific innovation, and Germany’s position as an international research hub.
“Germany has built a unique ecosystem for global health research. At a time when other countries are pulling back, German leadership is needed – not simply to fill the void left by others, but as a strategic investor that builds on the outstanding expertise of its researchers.”
Nora Anton noted that investments in global health research deliver substantial societal benefits, including improved health outcomes and greater resilience in Germany through advances in vaccines, medicines, and climate–health research. She further underscored the role of global health research in driving technological innovation, generating highly skilled employment, and strengthening Germany’s competitiveness through international research partnerships. She also pointed to the role of research networks such as GLOHRA and RHISSA in strengthening Germany’s position as an international research hub by increasing visibility, enabling access to unique data, and fostering long-term, trusted partnerships.
