Starting in 2025, the German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) will award two annual prizes, each worth 5,000 EUR, to recognize GLOHRA projects that make exceptional contributions to global health research. A Prize Jury has nominated five projects to pitch their projects during GLOHRA Day 2025, where the audience will decide the winners.
The German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) is a proponent for interdisciplinary and collaborative global health research. Addressing the complex challenges we face requires research approaches that defy traditional boundaries. GLOHRA seeks to foster exchange and forge new mechanisms of cooperation across institutions, disciplines, sectors and countries. With funding from the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), GLOHRA has supported more than 30 research projects in over 20 countries, spanning a wide range of topics.
The prize seeks to recognize GLOHRA projects that demonstrate exceptional contributions to global health research, with a focus on:
- Interdisciplinary and/or Cross-Sector Collaboration: Projects that successfully integrate knowledge, methods, and expertise across multiple disciplines to address complex global health challenges.
- Advancing Equity in Partnerships and/or Approaches: Initiatives that foster fair, inclusive, and mutually beneficial collaborations between researchers, institutions, or communities, particularly in low-resource settings.
- Research Communication: Recognizing projects that effectively translate research findings into accessible, engaging, and impactful communication for diverse audiences.
- Sustainable Outlook: Recognizing projects that demonstrate a commitment to sustainable approaches in terms of longevity of project outputs and/or environmental considerations.
- Capacity-Building for Early Career Researcher(s): Recognizing efforts that empower and support emerging global health researchers through mentorship, training, or leadership opportunities.
GLOHRA-supported projects which were completed in the past two years (in 2023 or 2024), were eligible for the prize. In a first stage, a Prize Jury comprised of select members of the Steering Committee conducted a thorough review of all submissions. The top two projects will be selected via an audience vote at GLOHRA Day 2025.
