This training offer is addressing methods and theories related to analyzing textual data for stories and to telling stories with geographic data. Key topics addressed will be methods such as qualitative content analysis, ethnographic discourse analysis, phenomenology from an epidemiologist’s perspective, and visualizing geographic data points; all with the aim of telling a convincing story. This knowledge will then be applied by participants in parallel workshops, allowing the early career Global Health researchers to either deepen their expertise in a method of choice, or to gather first insights into a new-to-them approach.
The training aims to enable early career researchers to:
⦁ Understand the importance of textual and map data in Global Health
⦁ Identify which approach is suited to which research question
⦁ Recognize the complexity and role of combining texts and maps in telling stories in their research
⦁ Practice applying peer guidance in workshop sessions
⦁ Reflect on opportunities for applying the learned approaches in their own research
