Policy Engagement
Science meets policy

The German Alliance for Global Health Research (GLOHRA) is an advocate for global health policy shaped by collaboration and evidence. GLOHRA engages with policymakers to share scientific perspectives and promote shared responsibility for addressing global health challenges.
Through joint statements, calls, and policy contributions, GLOHRA supports policies that reflect the need for coordinated, cross-border action to improve health globally.
GLOHRA advocates for:
- Interdisciplinary research. Addressing complex health challenges (AMR, climate, pandemics) demands input from medical, social, and technical sciences.
- Equitable partnerships with collaborators in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Global health research is most effective when co-led with LMIC institutions. Equal access to leadership and funding ensures relevance, ethics, and sustainability. Strengthening LMIC capacity improves global preparedness and long-term cooperation.
- Reduced bureaucracy & direct LMIC funding. Research funding often flows mainly to high-income partners. Direct funding and simplified procedures empower LMIC institutions and lower barriers to participation.
- Sustainable and long-term funding. Long-term investment is essential for lasting impact.
- Multilateral initiatives. Collaboration via WHO, EDCTP, CEPI and others ensures scale, coordination, and fairness.
