The Series directs special attention towards the added value of interdisciplinary and international cooperation in global health research. Every first Tuesday of the month, speakers share insights into their research projects while focusing on research processes, methods, as well as lessons learned. Following the speaker’s 30-minute presentation, the Series encourages an academic exchange between the speaker and the audience in a 30-minute Q&A session.

Prof. Dr. Christian Drosten is Director of the Institute of Virology and Chair of Virology at Charité Berlin. He is internationally recognized for his research on emerging viruses and has made major contributions to the identification and detection of novel infectious diseases. Trained as a physician and virologist, he has spent more than two decades investigating the emergence, evolution and transmission of zoonotic pathogens, particularly coronaviruses and other viruses with pandemic potential. Throughout his career, Prof. Drosten has contributed to the development of diagnostic tools and surveillance strategies for emerging infectious diseases and has collaborated extensively with international research institutions and public health organizations. His work has advanced the understanding of how viruses spread and how outbreaks can be detected and contained. In addition to his scientific achievements, he serves as Scientific Director of Charité Global Health and is widely recognized for translating scientific evidence into public health decision-making during infectious disease emergencies. In the upcoming session, Prof. Dr. Drosten will present on “Evolution of MERS-Coronavirus”.
