Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Sunder is Head of Research for Healthcare Construction at the Institute for Constructive Design, Industrial and Healthcare Construction at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Over the past 15 years, he has played a key role in establishing healthcare construction as a central focus of teaching and research within the department. One of his research focuses and area of expertise is infection prevention in buildings. In his role at the institute, he regularly initiates national and international research projects and advises hospital operators on their strategic development.

In the upcoming Session, Prof. Sunder will discuss how Rwanda's healthcare system can position itself in the areas of clinical and structural management to ensure the long-term care of patients with highly pathogenic pathogens. In this context, he will present a project that includes the construction of a high-level isolation unit in Kigali as well as the development of specialised training programmes for healthcare staff aimed at strengthening infection prevention, clinical management, and outbreak preparedness.
