In February 2020, with support from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), we set out to foster new collaborations across disciplines, institutions, sectors, and countries. As part of the Federal Global Health Strategy, GLOHRA has grown into a thriving research network advancing global health research within Germany and beyond.
Now, entering our sixth year, we are excited to continue building on this momentum, further strengthening our collaborations and expanding our impact. To mark this occasion, we highlight six selected milestones from our journey so far:
- Established Germany's first Global Health Research Directory, cataloging the research profiles of more than 1,400 members from over 220 research institutions
- Launched the Global Health Academy to support early career researchers through regular networking events, tailored training opportunities, and valuable resources such as the Training Repository
- Supported 37 global health research projects in 23 countries, contributing to improved health outcomes and policy impact, regular scientific publications, and follow-up research funding that far exceeds the original investment
- Created and contributed to around 10 statements and position papers, helping shape the global health policy dialogue and spotlight the importance of global health issues through parliamentary events in Berlin and at the German Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels
- Launched the GLOHRA Prize for Global Health Research, recognizing two outstanding teams with €5,000 each and strengthening the visibility of impactful, collaborative global health research and partnerships
- Built a strong social media presence with over 14,000 LinkedIn followers and 70,000+ views across 70+ videos on YouTube
Our journey is fueled by the dedication of our members, the leadership of our Steering Committee, and the operational support of the Secretariat. A heartfelt thank you to our funders for making this work possible. Here’s to many more years of strengthening global health research!
